Decoupling Stacker, Primary Concentrator

Dalkeith Plastics Pty Ltd was awarded the contract to build two ‘Sand Stacker Structures’ for the Primary Concentrator for the Iluka Ambrosia Mine Site in January 2013.
The work involved fabrication in our workshop welding 315 DN, 450 DN, 500 DN and 710 DN, Pn 16 HDPE for the processing of mineral sands. At the quoting stage, the Dalkeith Plastics Pty Ltd technical team identified that the spool measurements required would not be achievable using standard fittings. Some measurements did not allow for the fitting to be butt welded in a fusion machine.
Thinking outside of the square and within the job specifications, Dalkeith Plastics Pty Ltd moved on the idea to have some pipe horizontally bored to allow off set centres which made minimum lengths achievable. These sections were then extrude welded with 4 mm HDPE rod inside and out a few times.
HDPE backing rings were also required; these were laser cut and provided millimetre accuracy for the installation process.
The Dalkeith Team worked long hours and on weekends to ensure the project was delivered within the limited time frame required.
